About Toto
The group Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from the Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a complete failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour helped them become a household name across the globe.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album the group loses their manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to change their name and make a new album using the new producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto reunited for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time that all original Toto members had been on stage together in over 31 years. The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
